Student Spotlight: Jade Lo

"I decided to focus on plants and greenery for my etching project. I chose a up-close image of of some leaves as my reference photo. I drew very fine lines to help create texture when drawing on the Hard Ground on the copper plate. In order to distinguish between types of leaves, I used different methods of shading for each one. I left other concrete and metal elements from my photo simplified so that the detail in the leaves would stand out more. I was satisfied with my first print and decided not to make any additional changes to my drawing. The process of inking and printing the copper plates was extremely long and time consuming. However, I think the hard work paid off because the prints turned out well in the end."
